Softrail provides four different types of AEI software systems. AEI Rail & Road ManagerAEI Rail & Road Manager is a program designed to provide a low cost solution to managing yard inventory using AEI readers. It runs under the Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, and XP operating systems. Both portable and stationary AEI readers can input rail vehicle location data to the program, which graphically represents vehicle location data on a schematic of the yard. The program allows the user to draw a track map of the facility. The user can also enter cars into the system by manual input and move them by simply dragging and dropping the vehicles' icons from one track to another (more info).AEI Rail/Container ManagerAEI Rail/Container Manager is an advanced version of our AEI Rail & Road Manager program, which was developed for the Port of Tacoma. In addition to tracking rail cars from information received from AEI readers, it also tracks and maintains information on the containers transported on the rail cars.Information about containers is automatically received from Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Rail Advanced Interchange Consist (418) messages. The EDI418 messages provide the following information: - Estimated time of arrival - Container location on the rail car - Waybill information (more info). AEI Automatic Yard Tracking SystemAEI Automatic Yard Tracking System is a program designed for the Union Pacific Railroad. Its purpose is to automatically track rail car movements into and out of a yard. This system was first implemented at the UP Neff Yard in Kansas City. Neff Yard's 6 departure tracks were monitored by this system, which used a combination of equipment such as AEI readers, wheel detectors, presence monitors, and switch point detectors to maintain a real-time inventory of cars on the departure tracks.Over a period of 6 months months the system tracked over 200,000 cars into Neff Yard's departure tracks and was over 98.5% accurate. Further enhancements to the system should increase the accuracy to over 99.2+ (more info). AEI Rail Network Front End Processor SystemAEI Rail Network Front End Processor is a group of programs used to monitor AEI readers on an entire railroad. This system communicates with a number of wayside AEI readers via T94 messages that dial into the system's server and sends AEI data each time a train passes a reader. In most cases the wayside readers use a public telephone system (cellular, land line or both) to transmit this data. When a server receives data it passes it on to other railroad systems via an FTP server, TCP/IP communication or email.The system contantly monitors the health of AEI readers. It displays AEI reader status on a graphical map of the railroad. It also automatically send emails to maintenance personnel when it detects problems. (more info).
